Sirius Signs Audi Canada

Sirius Canada has just added Audi Canada to its growing list of exclusive, long-term vehicle agreements that will see its satellite radio receivers available as a factory option in 2007 model year vehicles.

Starting in early 2007, a number of Audi vehicles sold in Canada will offer a factory-installed Sirius satellite radio receiver, along with a three-month subscription to the service. These include the A3, A4 sedan (Avant and Cabriolet), S4 sedan (Avant and Cabriolet models), RS4, A6 sedan and A6 Avant, S6, Q7 performance SUV, flagship A8, A8 L, and S8 and A8 L W12, and the upcoming TT Coupe and Roadster. Sirius says that by late summer 2007, virtually all Audi Canada vehicles will be able to be equipped with Sirius satellite radio.

This long-term agreement with Audi Canada reinforces Sirius commitment to work with tier one partners to extend our reach across Canada and attract new subscribers to our premium110 channel offering, commented Mark Redmond, President and CEO, Sirius Canada Inc.

Audi Canada Signs Exclusive Long-Term Factory Agreement with SIRIUS Canada

Audi Canada and SIRIUS Canada today announced an exclusive long-term agreement that will make SIRIUS Satellite Radio receivers a factory option in virtually all Audi vehicles sold in Canada. Audi Canada will offer factory-installed SIRIUS Satellite Radio receivers with a three month subscription to SIRIUS Canada's premium 110 channel satellite radio service.

Starting early 2007, multiple Audi Canada vehicle lines will be available with SIRIUS Satellite Radio including the category defying Audi A3, the sporty A4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high performance S4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the extreme RS 4, the design-leading A6 sedan and A6 Avant; the sophisticated and powerful S6; the performance SUV from the creator of quattro - the Audi Q7; the premium flagship all-aluminum Audi A8, A8 L, and the 450 horsepower S8 and A8 L W12; and the upcoming TT Coupe and Roadster.

Audi A3 wows; price tag doesn't

A udis keep getting better, from the "entry-level" A3 to the top-of-the-line S8. They also keep getting more expensive.

Case in point: Our 2007 A3 3.2 Quattro S line, which carried a price tag of $42,300. You understand why we put the term "entry-level" in quotes.

Outside of the jaw-dropping sticker and a few quibbles, there isn't much to dislike about the A3 3.2 Quattro.

SHE: OK, just let me get this out of the way, so we can heap lots of praise on the A3. But didn't you tell me this compact five-door hatchback shares its basic running gear with the Volkswagen Rabbit? And doesn't the Rabbit start at just over $15,000? I really love the A3, but I'm having trouble figuring out where Audi put that extra $27,000.

HE: I don't have an answer that will satisfy frugal shoppers.

Audi drives S models at BIC

Audi will hold a three-week driving event at the Bahrain International Circuit to demonstrate its new Audi S models, Trade Arabia reported. The Audi S4 and S4 Cabriolet, the A6 and the S8, the sports version of the A8, will be put through their paces by regional media, VIPs and potential customers. .

The 2007 Audi S8 is a magnificent monster

(12-02) 04:00 PST Montreal -- There are lines that are never crossed, lines that are blurred, and lines that snap like a string pulled too taut.

Snap best describes what has happened with today's test car, the 2007 Audi S8, because of its connection with the Lamborghini Gallardo. In the world of performance cars, snap is a good thing.

Last time I drove a Gallardo, I was surprised not by the expected power and handling, which were superb, but by the center stack of controls -- climate, audio, information. It was straight out of the Audi parts bin, and probably a cost-saving measure by the German company, which has owned Lamborghini since 1998.

But what has Lamborghini done for the Audi line? How about a V10 engine derived from the same power plant that propels the Gallardo, plopped into the S6 and S8 models, transforming already fast, roomy sedans into virtual lightning bolts of comfortable accommodation?

That's right, the S8, whose past model managed "only" 360 horsepower in a world of luxury sedans that have crept as high as 600, now sports 450 horsepower and nearly 400 pound-feet of torque.

Audi S8 - Part Two Audi S8 Part Two

Sant'Agata Bolognese is under thick fog; the narrow highways disappear into the early morning light as I reach Automobili Lamborghini. Men in black examine me critically. I am here to deliver a challenge, a family duel: Audi versus Lamborghini, technology versus temperament. Ive come more than 700km over the Alps in the Audi S8 from Ingolstadt, pushing the chassis and brakes to the limit in the tight curves of the Malojapass.

Now its the turn of the yellow Lamborghini Gallardo. What I hadnt counted on was that I would be exchanging weapons with legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni, who now takes the wheel of the Audi S8 with a friendly smile. As soon as I press the Gallardos starter, the engine responds with a hoarse bark. With two fingers I pull the right gearshift paddle towards me, selecting first, and squeeze the throttle with caution.

Forbes Takes Another Look At The Mercedes S550

Posted by www.eMercedesBenz.com on November 28th, 2006 If Forbes Autos' initial review of the 2007 Mercedes S550 wasn't enough to clarify the publication's stance on the new model, Forbes itself has taken the liberty of publishing yet again a review of the luxury sedan to soothe the uneasiness surely felt by inquiring minds deliberating this very subject.

And while the reviewer lost any credibility he possessed when he stated the appearance of the Audi S8 is superior to that of the S550, the article does go on to mention a few of the S's more unique features, in the end delivering a mediocre assessment of the model.

As for whether or not you should buy the S-Class?

According to Forbes: "we can easily say to anyone who asks what to buy, if money's not an object and you want one of the world's best- ever luxury sedans: Buy this one."

No doubt.

Toyota excels in three Car of Year categories

The 200 "Best New" winners in 13 different Canadian car of the Year categories were announced this week by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) at a news conference in Toronto.

Toyota Canada walked away with three category wins, the most of any manufacturer: Best New Family Car ($22,000 to $30,000): Toyota Camry LE; Best New Family Car (over $30,000): Toyota Camry Hybrid and Best New SUV/CUV (under $35,000): Toyota RAV4 V6 Sport. Toyota's Lexus brand picked up another award, winning Best New Luxury Car (under $50,000) for its ES 350.

Volkswagen took two awards, Best New Small Car (over $18,000): VW Rabbit 2.5 and Best New Convertible: VW Eos 2.0T. VW's Audi brand also won for Best New Prestige Vehicle (over $75,000) for its S8.

Honda grabbed Best New Small Car (under $18,000) for the Fit LX (with manual transmission) while Acura won Best New SUV/CUV ($35,000 to $60,000) with the RDX with Tech Package.

Audi has horsepower under hood, in cabin

Like the caste system that rules countries such as India, Great Britain and, to a lesser extent, the United States (as defined by Enron and WorldCom), the normal hierarchy of things should have Lamborghini having more -- as in more power, torque and technology -- than Audi. Both make up the smorgasbord of automobile brands that are Volkswagen AG, and though Audi is the company's luxury brand, Lamborghini, thanks to a long-storied history of challenging the might of Ferrari, Porsche et al., occupies an even more rarified snack bracket.

So, on the news that the new S8 shares the same basic engine as the Lamborghini Gallardo, I, like many others, assumed it was Audi that was getting the lesser version of the V-10 that powers both. Indeed, an initial inspection confirmed just that.

A touch of prestige: Lexus LS 460L, Audi S8 and Mercedes S550 ...

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada holds an annual comparison test every October to determine Car and Truck of the Year honours for a variety of vehicles. Over the next few weeks, we'll offer some of the journalists' views on cars and trucks in different categories. Today, Brian Harper takes a look at the contenders for prestige cars over $75,000.

- - -

It was a close race in this category, which included three of the most expensive cars at Test Fest. The following are my choices:

Third place: Lexus LS 460L

The LS 460L, which handily out-pointed the fourth place Jaguar XK convertible, is the long-wheelbase version of Lexus's flagship sedan. It's also a technological tour de force, boasting unique features such as an eight-speed automatic transmission and the optional Advanced Parking Guidance System that assists in parallel and backup parking - part of a $25,000 package of goodies found on the tester.

Inside the new Jaguar

Take a seat in an electrically adjustable lounge chair. Fold down the richly buffed picnic tray and, if you choose, watch whatever is on the screen built into the back of the leather lounge chair in front of your seat.

Did I mention that we'll be traveling from 0-60 miles per hour in five seconds?

But don't worry, all will be smooth, quiet, and elegant inside the 2007 Jaguar XJ Super V8.

There is a remarkable market out there for super luxury sedans like this one. They feature horsepower approaching or topping 400, expensive leathers, finely polished woods, jet-like launches, and Autobahn-worthy top ends.

I have long held to the "it's not what's on the outside that counts" philosophy, and so should Jaguar with this rendition of its high-class sedan.
