Production Dodge Avenger shows up online
Upon first seeing the Dodge Avenger Concept ahead of the Paris Motor Show this year, the first thing we wondered was how this design would translate into a production model. The concept was equal parts flash and production ready pieces, so we couldn't say for certain what the car would look like without the show trim and large wheels. Now we know. A pair of shots showing a preproduction version of the Dodge Avenger was posted by Auto Motor und Sport today, and for the most part the underlying design of the concept car is present. Of course, without the deep front chin spoiler, faux rear air diffuser, deck spoiler and bold five-spoke wheels the production car looks rather tame. The big fender bulges, however, escaped from the cutting room floor in tact. We've said in the past based on our viewing of the Avenger Concept that we liked the styling more than the Chrsyler Sebring, and that's still our stand, however those fender flares are going to make most wheel/tire combos look puny and the upkink in the window line near the C-pillar looks like it will create a sense of claustraphobia for rear seat passengers.
New life for the hardtop that hides itself away
The folding of a retractable hardtop is the automotive equivalent of a Busby Berkeley routine: The hard roof rises, the roof folds and is then shoved into the trunk. It is such a wonder that it would be natural to assume that this engineering feat is a recent development.
Not so. In 1934, a Parisian dentist and part-time car designer, Georges Paulin, designed and patented a retractable hardtop for a small Peugeot coupe. Paulin's patron and coachbuilder, Marcel Pourtout, also custom-built several of Paulin's designs on a larger Peugeot chassis. The cars were attractive and extremely well received.
Paulin sold the retractable hardtop design and patent to Peugeot in 1935. Until World War II, Peugeot built a limited number of cars, called the 402BL Eclipse Decapotable, using Paulin's design.
Fire, ice & 007 is designers theme for Aston Martin DB9 & DBS
Marek Reichman pointed to the tie of an Aston Martin executive standing next to him. "This comes right from the cars," he said - reports SF Gate. The focus of attention was not a grease spot on the neckwear, but the delicate silvery pattern on the tie's red silk. Reichman, design director of Aston Martin, was talking about the inspiration for a new line of fabric and leather goods he is designing. The Ford Motor Co., which bought controlling interest in the British sports car maker in 1987, let it be known this summer that it wanted to sell Aston Martin. Enthusiasts and industry insiders await word on the company's future, but Reichman is keeping himself busy with other sorts of products, including ties and cuff links. "Fire and ice is the theme," Reichman said. This is the current Aston Martin marketing motif: passion and cool together.
Sarah Botham: True taste of holiday good cheer
I dropped our son at the Middleton High School pool early one cold December Saturday morning a few weeks ago for warm ups before his swim meet, then set off to find a much-needed mug of hot, steaming coffee.
Inside the local java house I bumped into a familiar face; longtime friend, entrepreneur and companion motor sports junkie, Eric. He was busy chatting with another gentleman, so I said a quick hello and took my spot in the coffee line.
I heard the gentleman in line ahead of me order.
"A decaf Christmas blend, " he said.
And almost without realizing it, my private thought became a public one. "The whole world needs a decaf Christmas," I said.
We shared a laugh that seemed more about the nervous truth of the statement than its intended humor.
2008 Chevrolet Equinox Sport to join automaker's lineup
Chevrolet is bumping up the fun factor of its Equinox compact ute with the debut of a performance-themed variant called the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox Sport. The heartbeat of the Equinox Sport is GM's 3.6-liter, DOHC V-6 with variable valve timing delivering 263 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft of torque– a 42-percent boost over its Equinox LT sibling. Mated to the engine is a Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic with tap shifters. Chevy claims an impressive 0-60 mph time of less than seven seconds.

2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 LS2 Convertible from UK and Ireland
To be honest id have either or them both have there good and bad points. The viper can burn your leg on the sills and is a little less comfortable for daily use, but more fun on track. Corvette is more comfortably daily better on track, but doesn't have the same fun factor to it.
Don't know which I would rather have would probably be the viper, but the corvette would be a better car to live with day to day. Still a 572 corvette would be amazing 620hp with an N/A engine. That sounds like more fun to me than a supercharger bolted on to a viper. Shame they won't ever put the big block in the vette, but it would put the car into supercar territory straight away if they did.

Having driven both I prefer the Viper.
Chevrolet Aveo U-VA to take on Maruti Swift
US based General Motors has launched an attack on India's dominating automaker Maruti by launching their latest product Chevrolet Aveo U-VA.
Chevrolet Aveo U-VA would take on Maruti Suzuki Swift and the base model of the car is priced at exactly the same price of the Swift LXI model at Rs. 3.99 lakh.
The other cars in the segment include Hyundai Getz, Tata Indica and Fiat Palio.
Maruti has been quite successful with Swift in India as it dominates this segment in India. They sell around 5000 units of Swift per month compared to just around 1,300 units of Hyundai Getz.
GM is benefiting from the government's policy of low taxes on cars with up to 1.2 liter engine. Swift has a larger engine thus could not gain tax concessions on this ground.
