| Sirius Signs Audi Canada
Sirius Canada has just added Audi Canada to its growing list of exclusive, long-term vehicle agreements that will see its satellite radio receivers available as a factory option in 2007 model year vehicles. Starting in early 2007, a number of Audi vehicles sold in Canada will offer a factory-installed Sirius satellite radio receiver, along with a three-month subscription to the service. These include the A3, A4 sedan (Avant and Cabriolet), S4 sedan (Avant and Cabriolet models), RS4, A6 sedan and A6 Avant, S6, Q7 performance SUV, flagship A8, A8 L, and S8 and A8 L W12, and the upcoming TT Coupe and Roadster. Sirius says that by late summer 2007, virtually all Audi Canada vehicles will be able to be equipped with Sirius satellite radio. 259km/h M3 driver 'surrenders'
A 32-year-old man handed himself in to police on Monday after he was caught driving at 259km/h on the East Rand, said Ekurhuleni metro police. The man, driving a BMW M3, was stopped by police on Linksfield Road in Edenvale on Sunday, but drove off before he could be arrested, said inspector Jimmy Maboko. "He told us that he was speeding because someone had broken into his factory and he was going to check it out." The man then drove off and police could not find him. "Because we had his licence details, we were able to contact him to tell him he was now a wanted criminal." The man handed himself in at Edenvale police station and was arrested. He was charged with reckless and negligent driving and failing to obey a police officer. Two other motorists were arrested on Sunday after they were caught driving at 193km/h.

Graffiti was painted on a dumpster, ramps and blacktop in McLaughlin Park earlier this month. The tags include: CHAP, POET, RISK, BELL, MHA, BE. The department requests any help from residents who recognize the tags or have information. Anonymity will be protected if requested. Call 412-221-6052. A black male dressed in a dark coat and hat attempted to take an extension ladder from a home in the 200 block of Liberty Street Dec. 7. A resident confronted the man and he dropped the ladder and fled. An unknown actor(s) shattered the drivers' side rear window of a white 2005 Dodge Stratus Dec. 10. The vehicle was parked in the 1200 block of Union Street. DUI Lucinda Dunlap, 25, of Belasco Avenue in Pittsburgh, 15216, was charged with DUI Dec.
Woman sues BMW for airbag injuries
A HAMPSHIRE woman is suing the BMW car maker after being severely injured when a car airbag exploded in a high-speed crash. Ruth Findlay, 49, of Kings Worthy, near Winchester, is demanding damages of £150,000 from BMW after the accident in May 2003. She was a passenger in a BMW estate car driven by Nicholas Findlay - thought to be her husband - when he collided with a deer at about 97 mph, according to a writ issued in the High Court.

BMW South Africa will launch the second-generation X5 here in May 2007. Initially two models, the 3.0d and 4.8i, will be available with the possibility of the 3-litre petrol joining the range at a later stage. The 4.8-litre thrusts out 261 kW at 6 300 r/min and a healthy 475 Nm of torque. Paired with a new quick-shifting six-speed automatic, BMW claims the V8 should reach 100km/h in 6.5 seconds. The diesel version of the X5, the 3.0d, develops a power output of 173 kW while peak torque is 520 Nm. According to Wheels24's info the indicative price tag for the 3.0d model will be R574 000. The expected pricing for the range-topping 4.8i is R662 000.
Chevrolet Aveo U-VA to take on Maruti Swift
US based General Motors has launched an attack on India's dominating automaker Maruti by launching their latest product Chevrolet Aveo U-VA. Chevrolet Aveo U-VA would take on Maruti Suzuki Swift and the base model of the car is priced at exactly the same price of the Swift LXI model at Rs. 3.99 lakh. The other cars in the segment include Hyundai Getz, Tata Indica and Fiat Palio. Maruti has been quite successful with Swift in India as it dominates this segment in India. They sell around 5000 units of Swift per month compared to just around 1,300 units of Hyundai Getz. GM is benefiting from the government's policy of low taxes on cars with up to 1.2 liter engine. Swift has a larger engine thus could not gain tax concessions on this ground.

Chevrolet's Aveo has many pleasant surprises
Chevrolet's all-new 2007 Aveo is a subcompact sedan with a surprisingly big interior because it has a high roofline. And the Aveo is loaded with many surprises.
For example, I asked a friend who is 6 feet 7 inches tall to get into the driver's seat -- and surprisingly he fit. Because of the high roofline, he was able to raise the height of the seat, resulting in his legs having more room, making him reasonably comfortable. That was just one of many surprises I had with the Aveo.
The base price of the Aveo LT is $13,250.
The test car had a few options, such as a four-speed automatic transmission and, with destination charges, this car sells for $15,005 -- surprisingly low considering its refined interior.
GM unveils Chevrolet Aveo U-VA
CATCHING UP: Rajeev Chaba, Managing Director, General Motors India, launching the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA in New Delhi on Friday. NEW DELHI: General Motors on Friday launched its hatchback `Chevrolet Aveo U-VA' in India. The 1.2-litre Aveo U-VA, which will be pitted against segment leader Maruti Swift and Hyundai Getz, will be available in three variants with the base model being priced at Rs. 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), matching the entry-level price offered by rivals. The other two variants of the model have been priced at Rs. 4.39 lakh and Rs. 4.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively, and the company offers the option of ABS (anti-lock braking system) on the top-end and airbags (after three months) for additional costs. General Motors India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said the company was banking on the success of the new model as well as the yet-to-be-launched Spark (a new version of the erstwhile Daewoo Matiz) for changing its fortunes in India, where it is a fringe player.
Editorial: A safety truth reaffirmed
It shouldn't be front-page news that the smallest cars are less safe than larger cars. This basic fact about automobiles was established more than two decades ago. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety knows this well. Its latest report shows how some of the smallest cars are not doing as well as theycould. The institute tested the Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Chevrolet Aveo, Mini Cooper, Hyundai Accent (twin of the Kia Rio), Scion xB and Toyota Yaris in front, side and rear collisions. This tested not only the protection afforded by the car's structure but also the effectiveness of head restraints and air bags (including side bags if available). Only the Versa earned the top rating (``good'') on all three tests. (The Versa is about 300 pounds heavier than the others though it competes in their market segment.) Sometimes effective air bags could not offset a structure that permitted penetration of the passenger compartment.
Insurance institute crash tests find safety flaws in smallest cars
Americans who buy the smallest cars on the market are twice as likely to have fatal accidents as drivers of midsize and larger vehicles, according to a report being released today by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.For the first time, the institute tested eight models to determine which are safest. Minicars typically weigh about 2,500 pounds or less, half the weight of large pickup trucks or SUVs.Only the Nissan Versa received "good" ratings in front, side and rear crash tests. The Toyota-made Scion xB was rated "poor" in side crash tests, as was the Honda Fit in rear-end crashes, while the Toyota Yaris was rated "marginal" in rear-end crashes.The nonprofit organization, funded by the auto insurance industry, also found that in 2005, the death rate in minicars between one and three years old was 144 deaths per every 1 million registered vehicles.
Ukrainians Drive into Russian
The Ukrainian Bogdan and Ukravto car companies will lay the cornerstone for their own auto plant in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Region today. The plant will have a capacity of 160,000 cars per year, which is a record for the Russian market, as well as 6000 buses, truck and bus engines and bus chasses. The plant will be completed by 2009 with total investment of $770 million. It will produce the Chevrolet Lanos, which will compete with AvtoVAZ products.
