First Ford Shelby GT rolls off the line headed to Barrett-Jackson
We just told you about how "Hot Wheels" Amy Boylan has managed to turn Shelby Auto around, and here is one of the fruits of her labor: The first production 2007 Ford Shelby GT. As we told you a while ago, the Ford Shelby GT is essentially the consumer version of the rental-fleet-only Shelby GT-H. It will be the third Mustang in the Shelby Mustang family along with the Hertz edition and the 500-horsepower Ford Shelby GT500. And this newest Shelby 'Stang is set to follow in their footsteps. This first GT, CSM No. 07SGT0001 will follow its big brother GT500, by crossing the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Event on Saturday, January 20th. Just like the GT500, all the proceeds will go to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation. In case you don't remember, that first GT500 sold for $600,000 back in January.

Chrysler wants to stretch out the life cycle of its current Dodge Dakota pickup. So the U.S. arm of DaimlerChrysler AG will give the midsize Dakota an extensive face-lift for model year 2008, prior to a full redesign in 2012. The Dodge brand continues to evolve a new family face, with the '08 Dakota drawing styling inspiration, including the brand's signature cross-bar grille from the Nitro and the Charger. Dodge will start building the Dakota in fall 2007.

All-New 2007 Dodge Nitro Features Gentex Auto-Dimming Mirror
ZEELAND, Mich., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gentex Corporation, the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, has announced that it is supplying auto-dimming mirrors for the all-new 2007 Dodge Nitro mid-size SUV.
A base interior Gentex mirror is standard on the Nitro SLT and R/T trim levels. The mirror can be upgraded to include U-Connect(TM), Chrysler Group's hands-free communication system.
Gentex auto-dimming mirrors automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors become, making nighttime driving safer.
"Midsize SUVs and crossover vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, and that's what makes this an important program for us," said Enoch Jen, Gentex senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Retire in style
Going out in exactly the same way a person went to work 41 years, one month and seven days ago probably ought to be counted among them.
Thats how Joe Willforth of 2468 Andrews Drive did it when he retired Friday at Delphi Packard Electric.
Willforth, 65, drove off in the 1964 Chevrolet Impala convertible that he arrived in for his first day on the job more than four decades earlier. The car has never been altered and aside from a few scratches and scrapes from storage looks just as it did when it was purchased.
I drove it the first day and I wanted to drive it the last, the retiree said of the Impala. How many people can say that.
Willforth said that using the car for his final day of work had been his plan for some time. He said he was thankful that it didnt snow Friday.
Spy Photos: 2008 Dodge Dakota
Straightline's got a picture of what they're claiming is the new Dodge Dakota, refreshed for the 2008 model year. Although the Dakota no longer shares a platform with the Durango, the Ram-brand's full-size SUV, you can definitely see where it's taking styling cues from another Dodge product, the Nitro. Yup, it's got that same grille that only a mother could love -- a blind mother that is. But at least, according to Straightline, you'll be able to drive blind ol' mom around with a bit more power as they're claiming the mid-size will receive an upgrade to the new 4.0-liter V6 as the base engine configuration -- plus some power boosts for those with the bank to step into a truck with V8 power. – Ray Wert

2007 Dodge Nitro
Overview: Dodge has launched its late entry into the small-SUV class with the Nitro, which draws heavily from the Jeep Liberty platform. Longer than the Jeep, the Nitro will face off against established six-cylinder competitors, such as the Ford Escape, Nissan Xterra, and Suzuki Grand Vitara, with a bold appearance and available on-road performance package.
The Nitro comes in three trim lines: SXT, SLT, and the sportier R/T. Each trim is available with either two- or four-wheel drive. Antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and side-curtain air bags are all standard. The base SXT with a six-speed manual transmission starts at about $21,000 with popular equipment. Each Nitro is available with a part-time 4WD system that adds about $1,500. The R/T has a different powertrain--a 260-hp, 4.0-liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic--a full-time four-wheel drive system, and large 20-inch wheels.

Like Our New Look?
You may have noticed we changed the navigation bar a bit. And hey, the Blog has its own tab! We also added the header with the Ferrari 308--inspired by Magnum PI and the cheesy 80s poster below. We'll probably swap it out with different cars when the mood strikes. Maybe a burning Lambo next time. Or a Donk. But props to Winston for the design.
Anyway, we want to hear from you on the new design, so post a comment and let us know what you think.
