| Ford's Sustainability Gains in Hybrid Technology
February 22, 2007 -- Gasoline-electric hybrid technology continues to gain momentum and Ford Motor Company researchers are working hard to advance innovative hybrid solutions to address consumer interest. Ford unveiled a hydrogen-fueled, battery-powered plug-in Ford Edge at the 2007 Washington (D.C.) Auto Show in January.Unveiling the hybrid Ford Edge in Washington helped Ford showcase the vehicle and its technology in front of leading government officials and legislators, an important audience as Congress begins working under new leadership."Besides the public, the audience in Washington includes the people in charge of energy and clean air policy so this is very much a showplace for exhibiting what Ford technology can do in the future," said Scott Staley, Ford's chief engineer for Hybrid and Fuel Cell Technology Development.
Vics must watch 'pest' Perren
While Queensland has had the edge this summer over Victoria in the Ford Ranger Cup, today's one-day final should be a cracker. The northerners won both contests during home-and-away rounds, but the two states have built serious rivalry, particularly over the past decade. Last year's Pura Cup final was a painful experience for the Bushrangers at the Gabba. The Bulls squeezed the life out of the Vics and then kicked them when they were down. Without Matthew Hayden, Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson, the Queenslanders look a fraction light in the batting stakes and will rely on the experienced Jimmy Maher to steer the ship. Clinton Perren is a serial pest against Victoria, having scored valuable runs in the past. The Bulls' bowling is, as always, their strength, with Andy Bichel, Ashley Noffke and James Hopes providing experience.
Possible witness to fatal crash sought
Investigators are searching for the driver of a second car who might have witnessed a single-car crash Sunday night in the Robla area that left two teenagers dead and three others injured. Witnesses described the second car as a 1990-era white Ford Thunderbird with gray primer on the left front bumper. A 2000 Ford Mustang westbound on Main Avenue struck a pole near Kelton Way about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Who gets what in the local council money stakes
Mosman Park councillors are among the most expensive in the western suburbs, costing a total $103,800, despite reaping the third lowest operating revenue out of the seven councils. Cambridge mayor Marlene Anderton topped Mosman Park mayor Ron Norris by a Honda CRV four-wheel-drive vehicle. Both get $29,400 a year in benefits, which are the maximum sitting fees and allowances. Their deputy mayors and councillors also get the maximum benefits allowed in their roles. Cambridge's elected members in total cost $114,200, but the town has only one councillor more to serve more than double the number of ratepayers as Mosman Park. Peppermint Grove councillors are the cheapest, as they donate their $43,560 in sitting fees back to the shire.
Mercedes' changes are more than skin deep
To really appreciate the major changes in Mercedes-Benz's 2007 E-Class, you'll have to look beneath the surface. Of course, there are cosmetic changes as well: new taillights, a chrome bar across the rear of the car, a different gearshift lever and steering wheel. But the instant you turn the key in the ignition, you know this is not the old E-Class.
