FIA GT: Mucke fills final Lamborghini seat

After five seasons in the DTM, Stefan Mucke will be moving on to pastures new in 2007 after announcing he will leave his father's team and embark on a new career racing in the FIA GT Championship with All-Inkl.Com Reiter Engineering.source: crash.netAn experienced DTM competitor, Mucke came to the championship in 2002 having claimed the runners-up spot in the German Formula Three Championship for his father, Peter Mucke's, eponymous team. From here he went on to race a Rosberg Mercedes CLK for two years, moving to Persson for 2004 and then returning to Mucke's fold in 2005 when the team entered for the first time.It was in 2006 though that Mucke experienced his best season in the DTM, scoring his finest result of fourth place at the Norisring, while he also qualified his year-old C-Class inside the top ten on three occasions.Nonetheless, Mucke will leave the DTM behind to pursue a drive in the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT alongside sportscar stalwart Christophe Bouchut in 2007, an opportunity the 25-year-old German was very much looking forward to."I had several good offers for this season and I opted for contesting the Sports Car World Championship as I was of the opinion that this was the most interesting project, on the medium term," he said.

Audi unwraps new A5/S5 Coupés for SA!

Thinking is that the car will eventually replace the A4 Cabrio and challenge BMW's 6 Series and Mercedes CLK. What is certain is that it will have Audi's 3.2 V6 FSI and TDI engines and a V8 and pack a choice of six-speed manual or a constantly variable auto transmission with the facility to lock in any of eight "ratios" .

SPIED IN SA: Posh Audi coupe

A Wheels24 reader has spied the Audi A5 coupe, which is only due to be unveiled in March, north of Upington in the Northern Cape.

Hot on the heels of our article about Audi's upcoming A5 on Friday, two A5s were snapped by reader Ewald Fourie.

The cars are most likely undergoing hot-weather testing as the Northern Cape is a favourite testing ground for carmakers.

It seems as if the A5 will on size compete more against the likes of the Mercedes CLK and even the BMW 6 Series.

The photos also show that Audi is basically transforming its eye-catching Nuvolari concept car into a 2+2 production version.

As reported on Friday, the A5 will get the usual array of Audi engines while performance versions, an S5 and RS5 are on the cards too.

Recently Audi SA told Wheels24 that the A5 is destined for South Africa too, but it will only arrive here early in 2008.

New AMG options for E/CL/CLS 63, SL/SLK 55

AMG is offering special options packages to accessorise its tuned and tweaked Mercedes super-saloons and sports cars even further. The E63 AMG pack (for the 514bhp saloon) comprises 18", five-spoke alloy wheels, painted sterling silver, firmer-tuned suspension, a multi-disc locking rear differential to give more traction when accelerating out of corners, and a black leather/Alcantara steering wheel with aluminium gearshift paddles. It costs - wait for it - €7,140 in mainland Europe; UK prices have not yet been confirmed. There are new AMG options for other models, too. The SLK 55 AMG can have the new 18-" alloys, suspension mods, carbon trim details and special velour floor mats. For the SL 55 AMG, there's 19" alloys and the sumptuous floor mats. There are also individually-priced options for the E63 AMG estate, including the 18" wheels, rear locking differential and floor mats.

Volvo C70

SOME may argue that road testing a convertible as the winter months close in is hardly the most sensible thing to do. But I beg to differ because what better time to test Volvo's claims that its new C70 - complete with hi-tech folding metal roof - is so good that it really is two cars in one? In fact Volvo is so confident of its new car's abilities that it quite happily dubs the C70 an "extraordinary sports coupé" that can also turn itself into a convertible at the press of a button. .
