| Infant killed in crash
WARNER ROBINS - A 3-week-old girl was killed when she was ejected from a car in a crash on Ga. 247 shortly before noon Thursday, police said. The infant was believed to have been in her car seat when thrown from the van, authorities said. However, the car seat was not the appropriate size for an infant, the child was not strapped inside the car seat and the car seat itself was not buckled in, said Cpl. Sean Alexander of the Houston County Sheriff's Office, who is investigating the crash. The car seat remained in the vehicle. According to Chief Deputy Sheriff Billy Rape, the van in which the baby was riding pulled out in front of a southbound vehicle on Ga. 247 at Ignico Drive. The two vehicles collided and the van went over on its side, continued to slide and turned right side up before coming to rest in the right of way.
Nissan brings V8-power to Super GT
If you haven't had the opportunity to check out the Japanese Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), or as it's now referred to, the Super GT series, you're missing out. Supras battle NSXs, Zs and Imprezas. Lamborghinis take on Ferraris, Porsches and GT-Rs.There are two classes GT300, for vehicles producing 300 HP, and GT500 for vehicles that are making, you guessed it, 500 HP. Both groups attack the same course at the same time, which makes for some of the greatest wheel-to-wheel touring car action in the world. Back in December of 2004, GTLIVE convinced the organizers of the JGTC to head east for an exhibition run at California Speedway in order to gauge interest in the sport Stateside. It was one Hell of a show, but at the end of the day, the sanctioning body of the JGTC didn't feel it was worth the effort to come back the following year.Follow the jump, for more on the V8-powerd NISMO 350Z, a pic of the engine and the full press release.
Infant dies in crash
A 3-week-old child died Thursday after being ejected from her grandmothers van in a crash on Ga. 247 and Ignico Drive. The child, Lilly Rose Logue, was laid in a car seat, but not strapped in and the seat, which was not buckled to the vehicle, said Cpl. Sean Alexander of the Houston County Sheriffs Office Traffic Division. Had the child been in the seat properly, Alexander said, we would have been in a better situation than we are today. The child and the grandmother, Denise Logue, 53, of 200 Second St., Bonaire, were both ejected from the vehicle. Nobody in the vehicle was using the seatbelts, Alexander said. The teenage mother, Erina Logue, 16, and the car seat remained in the vehicle. Alexander said the driver was on her cell phone at the time of the crash.
Fords in background of Toyota video
Its one of the most dramatic commercials for Toyota Motor Co.s redesigned Tundra pickup. A truck drives up a steep seesaw, towing a heavy load and is able to stop on the way down, despite the extra weight. Toyota is so proud of the commercial that it posted behind-the-scenes footage to its Web site. Thats where eagle-eyed Ford Motor Co. fans notice something. Ford trucks can be seen in the background at the job site. Calls to Toyota U.S. sales and marketing officials in California were not immediately returned this morning. The first truck visible in the video is a Ranger pickup with a camper shell on it. The next is a Louisville-built F-Series Super Duty truck. As the videos director watches to see if the Tundra will be able to stop, the truck in the background is another Super Duty.
Crash driver has sentence increased
A P-PLATE driver who crashed her car, killing one of her friends and seriously injuring two others, will spend at least six months in custody after her sentence was increased on appeal. The 19-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had only held her provisional licence for 11 days when she lost control of her Peugeot convertible in Raglan Street, Mosman, in June 2004. Jade Graham, 18, died on impact while two other teenage girls, both 17, suffered serious injuries - one fracturing her skull and forming a blood clot on her brain. In the NSW District Court today, Judge Ken Taylor said the driver, who was 17 at the time of the accident, had been driving at speeds between 75km/h and 80km/h in a 50km/h zone when she lost control of the car.
Evo Challenge set for Sunseeker launch.
The 2007 Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge will blast off in Bournemouth on Friday and Saturday's Rallye Sunseeker, with the high-profile one-make series for Group N Lancer Evolutions commencing its seventh consecutive season. Now featuring a calendar which includes six Hankook MSA Gravel Rally Championship rounds and two Pirelli Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship rounds, the Evolution Challenge sees a strong and well subscribed entry of 24 cars for its first event of the year. "It's great that this championship continues to attract so many teams - and such a range of drivers - from a former British Champion to another who will be competing in a Mitsubishi for the very first time," championship co-ordinator Simon Slade said. "I'm also pleased to see such a high quality entry as well, which makes it difficult to predict a winner, especially as everyone's driving a similar specification car." Returning to the Evo Challenge fold for another crack at the title is 2006 runner-up Jonny Milner, who starts this weekend's event as the series' number one seed.
