After weeks of chasing the 2009 Nissan Skyline GT-R, from the streets of Los Angeles to one test facility and another, it looks like we've hit the end of the road for this GT-R's stint in America. Following a day of hot-lapping at Sears Point, the Nissan engineering team headed south to Laguna Seca raceway to see how the Skyline GT-R would handle the 2.2-mile road course and its world-famous Corkscrew. The day wrapped up with the Nissan engineers mugging for an official Nissan camera crew, while our unofficial shooters snagged plenty of new spy photos and video. Although the prototype never shed its front and rear camouflage, we caught the Nissan Skyline with its hood open, giving us the first-ever look at the GT-R's power plant. Close inspection reveals a few notable details about the engine that's expected to generate roughly 450 horsepower.

Outlander Combines Beauty, Power

The all-new 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander is tagged as a mid-size sport utility, but I would label it as right-size; it's big enough to do what you want, yet small enough to tuck away in a tight parking space that defeats larger vehicles.

The only thing I didn't like about the Outlander was the timing; I had to give it back before that brutal ice storm hit us, so I wasn't able to test its prowess on our treacherous roads.

Sumptuous, timely revision

There was a feeling of slight discomfort at the international presentation of the Porsche Cayenne in Spain late last month.

Scribblers were confused when Porsche called its latest Cayenne as the second-generation model. And the boys from Zuffenhausen were a tad uneasy when they told the media that the Cayenne isn't a mere facelift.

Should you or any prospective buyer really care? That would really depend on what you value in a new car. But as Motoring understands from a common standpoint in the automotive industry, the Cayenne should be regarded as a mid-life update.

You see, the Cayenne is four years old. So the usual practice in such a given time is to facelift it - and that's exactly what Porsche has done.

The overall design is basically the same as before, except for some details like new side-view mirrors, rear lights and head lamps reminiscing the "running egg" style that was, in contrast, ditched for today's 911 from its predecessor.

Snow keeps area's patrol officers, two trucks busy

The first snow of the season for Nevada County's lower elevations caused havoc early Thursday as commuters struggled to get children to school and to work on time.

"It's a mess everywhere," California Highway Patrol Officer Randy Corbett said. The four or five patrol officers on duty were "running around from spin-out to spin out."

Here are some accident reports from Grass Valley Police Department, Nevada County Sheriff's Office and the CHP:

• At 8:17 a.m., numerous callers reported an injured deer in the roadway on Pleasant Valley Road near Lake Wildwood Drive. Sheriff's deputies responded, as CHP officer were busy tending to accidents.

• At 8:28 a.m., a caller from Idaho-Maryland Road reported a vehicle went into a snowbank and was blocking traffic.
